This service provides a final polish for your manuscript, correcting spelling, punctuation, capitalization, italicization, and indentation to make it publication-ready.  Ideally for authors who have already copy-edited their book, or those otherwise ready to proceed to publishing - send it for your free editorial appraisal for my recommendation.

Following proofreading, your edited manuscript will be returned as TWO Word (.DOC) files, one with tracked changes, allowing you to accept or reject edits as you wish, and one fully saved, so you can see the proposed final text.  A Completion of Work Report will be included, to guide you in how to navigate and amend the markup, ensuring you have full control over revisions.

If I feel that your manuscript requires more than basic proofreading, I will recommend the copy-editing service instead.

Pay-As-You-Go Editing

I also offer Pay-As-You-Go options for all editing and proofreading instructions.  Want to split your editing costs into manageable payments that suit your budget?  Pay for 10,000 words one month and 20,000 the next, or maybe spread your budget over a fixed timeframe?  No problem!  Invoicing is flexible and dynamic - just let me know when requesting your free editorial appraisal.

Illustrated Books and Images

£1.50 per image

If your book has interior images, these will also need to be formatted, and I am happy to do so.  Because of the additional work required, images are surcharged at an additional rate of £1.50 each.  Please note, when typesetting for print, that it will be necessary to resize and perhaps even move them very slightly, to reduce white space in the book.

For heavily illustrated and children's books, a minimum charge of £49.00 will apply for editing and formatting.

Please ensure that your images are high-resolution.  If you are in any doubt, submit your book for my free editorial appraisal.

Copy-Editing (with tracked changes and extensive comments)

My copy-editing service is an essential penultimate step in the editing process, to ensure that your manuscript is presented to the highest standard, amending and refining spelling, punctuation, paragraph formatting and scene breaks as needed.  In addition to these basic corrections, utilizing the tracked changes function, I will also include extensive comments throughout, added to the margin of your manuscript, addressing syntax, diction, paragraph structure and consistency, proposing (but not implementing) the most suitable and professional use of language, giving you all the input you need to elevate your manuscript’s readability and flow.

For non-fiction books, I will check styles and referencing, adhering to best-practice Harvard/APA/MLA/Chicago, etc. styles.  A stylesheet will be provided.

Like the proofreading service, your edited document will be returned as TWO Word (.DOC) files, one with tracked changes, allowing you to accept or reject proof edits as you wish, and the other with all changes accepted. 

Includes:

  • Comprehensive grammatical corrections (spelling, punctuation, indentation, and formatting).

  • Document formatting for ease of work and best practice in editing and typesetting stage.

  • Extensive comments proposing and fully explaining sentence restructuring where needed, for clarity and fluidity.

If your manuscript only requires basic proofreading, rest assured I will advise against a full copy-edit, to reduce unnecessary cost.

Translation to English

£20.00 (fully refunded upon subsequent copy-editing instruction)

Is your manuscript written in another language?  I will happily use A.I. software to translate your book into English before carrying out the usual free editorial appraisal; this will be fully reimbursed if you proceed with copy-editing (proofreading will not be available for translated manuscripts).  Please note, it is your responsibility to ensure that the content is translated correctly before instructing.  I will ensure that your post-edited book reads smoothly and professionally for an English-speaking audience.

📌 Important Notes:

  • I will carry out the usual editorial appraisal after translation and provide my quotation.  Subsequent instruction of my proposal constitutes your acceptance of the translated content.

  • The translation itself is not covered under my quality guarantee, but the editing and final manuscript will be. 

  • Your final pricing will be based on the English word count after translation.

  • The translation fee is non-refundable should you choose not to proceed with recommendations in the editorial appraisal.

  • This service is designed for English-language publication; unfortunately, I can not provide reverse translation to the original language.
